I didn’t start out with research or a grand unifying theory, and then find ways to animate it. Was this part of your thinking while crafting your novel?Īlistair Mackay: Absolutely, although not in the neat way that your question implies.
GH: Incidentally, I’ve been doing quite a bit of research on queer ecology and intersectional environmentalism, and a lot of it highlights the shared injustices of queer people and the environment under capitalistic and patriarchal systems.
